Sending text messages via SMS protocol is still very popular today. In many regions, even sending a text message is completely free and is therefore widely used, as it does not require Internet access or connection to operate. This is an advantage, as it opens up a means of communication for situations where a data connection is not available.
One of the practical cases we can imagine is the control of IoT devices that have no Internet connection, but do have mobile coverage. Stack SMS (architecture and SDK under Open Source license) aims to take advantage of the latter, the option of having access to a communications channel using just a GSM connection. But, in addition, the design as a communications protocol allows the implementation of other more complex applications always using SMS messages as a base. It also offers a library or framework for programming all kinds of utilities or applications that can be executed within Stack SMS.
