To help advancements in beyond 5G and 6G technologies,
Telefónica is participating in a
new research project called
XTRUST-6G, financed by the
European Commission under the Horizon Europe program, through the European Smart Networks and Services Joint Undertaking (
SNS JU).
This project is a
Public-Private Partnership aiming to foster the conception and standardization of 6G and boost the deployment of 5G in Europe, preparing
smarter networks and services for emerging opportunities. These future networks should range from edge and cloud-based service provisions, preparing networks for devices beyond smartphones, including IoT, virtual and augmented reality devices and autonomous vehicles.
The XTRUST-6G project is a
cooperation between 19 partners In Europe (from both the public and private sectors), with its main
goal to establish a
zero-trust framework, addressing security and privacy needs of physical and virtual assets of 6G networks. Zero-trust security is built open the principle of “never trust, always verify”, requiring continuous authentication of all applications, regardless of their location within or outside the network perimeter. This leads to a segmentation between untrusted and potentially vulnerable portions from high impact and critical assets of the network, limiting the capabilities of sophisticated cyber-attacks.
XTRUST-6G also
aims to provide
advanced techniques for enhancing 6G privacy and sensitive information sharing, as well as methods for distributed AI/ML training, focusing not only on performance, but also in having trusted, explainable, fair, and sustainable models.
